Aims and Scope
The SAE International Journal of Aerospace is the preeminent source for peer-reviewed, cutting-edge engineering research within the aerospace industry. The journal is an essential resource for anyone in academia, industry, or government seeking the latest studies and technology in aerospace engineering. In addition to being identified as some of the best published technical papers on current technology, the Journal archives historic findings and illuminates the future of aerospace engineering and how we plan to get there. The journal covers a range of subject areas, including propulsion, safety and reliability, software, systems, rotorcraft, maintenance, and general aviation.

Editorial Board

Editor-in-Chief: John C. Dalton, retired, Boeing
John C. Dalton is a retired Technical Fellow in Airplane Safety Engineering from the Boeing Company. He has more than 45 years of engineering, safety analysis, and management experience in airplane design and maintenance and in promoting the aviation enterprise. He is presently serving as Vice President of Airplane Safety for Electron International Inc., providing consulting and educational services to the aviation community. In addition, he works to improve operational safety in the field.

Dalton is a Fellow of SAE International and a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society. He is on a number of international committees working to improve safety in the aviation industry. He is Chairman of the SAE S-18 committee on international safety standards. It is responsible for ARP 4754 and ARP 4761, which are the international standards for initial commercial airplane design requirements and safety assessment. The committee also produces ARP 5150, which is the international standard for safety assessment for aircraft in use in the field. He also participates in international conferences to promote understanding and use of these standards. Dalton is the former chair of the SAE Air & Space Group, which governs the development of aviation conferences for SAE. He is also the Chairman of the General Projects Systems Group, which oversees 10 SAE standards committees.

Before coming to Boeing, Dalton spent eight years as an engineering manager at the Westinghouse Marine Division. He was the System Engineering Manager on the Submarine Vertical Launch System for the Tomahawk Cruise Missile and was responsible for design requirements, system integration, design control, and system safety. He was also the Lead System Safety Engineer on the Peacekeeper Rail Garrison missile launcher.
